Near the Cross: Nationhood and Hope Zine
Pre-order is now open for the first 100 copies of Near the Cross.
Near the Cross is a self-published photography zine created in dialogue with the exhibition Nationhood: Memory and Hope, commissioned by Bradford 2025 and Impressions Gallery for the UK City of Culture.
The work takes its name from a hymn that echoes through the artist’s family history. His grandparents and mother made the journey from Jamaica to the UK in the 1960s, carrying with them both faith and hope. That spirit of memory and continuity informs every page.
Bringing together photographs made in Bradford with text drawn from reflection and testimony, Near the Cross considers the place of Britain’s Black communities today. These images are rooted in authenticity and emotional depth. They dwell in the in between, in the quiet and often overlooked connections that shape lives of faith, loss, resilience and belonging.
This 24 page A5 landscape zine is produced with the same close attention to detail as the exhibition itself. It allows the work to live beyond the gallery space and become part of your own collection.
